Happy New Year!!!

Are you all glued to your televisions today watching the football games? Have any of you set New Years resolutions? I pretty much have the same ones every year. So ditto for me. Maybe you could all help me with one of them this year? I need to go for an annual physical but I hate to mainly because I have gained weight. I've been putting the visit off because instead of loosing weight from my last visit I have gained weight. I'm not in the obese category yet, but my doctor must be trying to make sure that I don't go there because she talks to me about my weight every time I have a check up. I mentioned to Amy that I probably should go to an overweight doctor but she said that wouldn't help because after she had Jenny, her doctor told her to loose weight or she'd look like her, the overweight doctor. Anyway, I'm overweight as I'm sure all of you that have seen me in the last decade have noticed. I've heard that some of the Osmonds have lost a lot of weight using an application on the Iphone so I'm going to start using the application today. I haven't looked at the application very closely yet but I think that I use it to keep track of what I have eaten, my daily calories and physical exercise. I think it's pretty basic so anyone can do it without an Iphone. I haven't eaten anything yet today so I'm going to start right now. If you want to join me you can use whatever diet that you choose. I've heard a support system really works to loose weight but I don't want to go to regular meetings every week and weigh in. That sounds too embarrassing and horrible. It's hard enough to weigh in at the doctor's office. My goal is to loose 1 pound a week until I'm in the normal weight category. I'm sure my doctor is just trying to help me to get my high chlorestrol down and prevent heart disease. Do I have anyone else out there that wants to go on the diet with me? Let's get started today and report each week on whether we have lost a pound the previous week. How about reporting to each other every Monday. That gives everyone a couple of days to binge out before we start. Do I have any supporters? I'm hoping that if I have to report to you I'm going to loose 1 pound a week for sure! The hardest part will be not to put it back on again. Let me know your thoughts and ideas. Maybe you could encourage your friends and family to join us. The more the merrier. Have a great day and a great 2010!

Hi Kathy! I'm with you. I have to admit that I had a head start. I had the gastric bypass in January 2009. I got rid of 94lbs before surgery and since January 21st I've gotten rid of another 153lbs for a total weight drop of 247lbs. However, the surgery is just a tool and I still have a long way to go. I still have to watch what and how much I eat. Lately the scale has been like an Osmond song..."Yo Yo", so I'm looking for all the support I can get. After waiting 40+ years, I finally met Wayne in October and he was very encouraging. That has helped me get through more than one rough time. By the way, if you want more background information, I've posted on the Osmond Brothers forum. The thread title is "I'm so Excited!"
So, I with you, all the way!!

Hey Kathy! This sounds like a great idea! It's hard enough to do it by yourself so maybe with some of us other gals that need to lose a few it won't be so bad!

And I thank you so much for doing this blog -my day started out with a panic attack from you-know-where and I haven't had one that bad in a long time. So I have been a nervous nellie all day - then I saw this blog and started reading - I have laughed and laughed and feel much better now!

And you should make a space for us to tell our travel adventures with Wayne!!! Man oh man, you'd be rolling your eyes and laughing so much you wouldn't be able to stand up!!! I have some funny ones that stick out in my mind and still make me laugh to this day!!

We sure have had fun all these years haven't we?

I'm with you Kathy. Losing weight has been my annual resolution since I was young. My resolution this year is three fold: 1) lose the weight I regained following November's surgery, 2) after that, start anew for my annual goal, and 3) I resolve to go back to the health center at work. Maybe by being publicly accountable, I'll last longer than March with this year's resolutions! Sandra

Count me in. I need to loose (a lot). I gained a lot this last year due to worrying about things. I have lost before and it helps to write everying down in a journal. Here's hoping this year is slimmer than the last.

I so know what you mean Kathy. I'd be glad to try with you. I have already made my resolution to start going back to Curves and getting off some of this weight that has crept back. Enjoy "bingeing" this weekend and we'll get started on Monday. I think it will help me alot to report to someone on whether I have done my excercise or not. Good luck

Kathlyn - I'm with you. I am already in the morbidly obese category and need to get with the program. I tried getting some of it off last year and managed to lose about 40 pounds, but ended the year putting about 17 of them back on. There is no excuse - I just love to cook and eat and my hubby loves it when I do, too. I was following the Weight Watchers program at home and weighing in every week on Saturday mornings. I need to get that structure back. I don't have iPhone or any techno gadgets to play with, just the scales and the laptop, but I'll join in with you - let's do it! May 2010 find us both smaller and healthier!

I have to go for my physical next week. Why did I make that appointment so soon after Christmas? I've done nothing but eat this holiday & not the healthiest of foods either. As for exercise...I took a holiday from that too. It's all gotta stop now. If I can take off 2 of the 4lbs I gained back by next Thursday, I'll be happy. I'll hit the gym tomorrow & Tuesday, and taekwondo Monday & Wednesday.

I'm not really good at following diets. For me, I just need to stop the snacking, the junk food & watch my portions. If I put my mind to it, I can do it, and that's my goal right now. I'll gladly support you in all that you do though. I'm good at that! Please feel free to report to me. You'll do great, lose that pound or more a week, and keep it off too. You've got this crazy Canadian in your corner. hahahaha

Happy New Year! Let the weightloss begin!! :)

YES! I want to diet with you! I would like to lose 15-20 pounds. I accomplished that goal 1-2 years ago, but it comes back so quickly! Not fair. My husband is like Wayne...he stays slim...even weighs the same as he did when we dated in high school. But he is extremely supportive of what I need to do. I want to achieve my goal by April 25. That's the next time I will see the your husband and his brothers perform at Lawrenceburg, Indiana! The next day, April 26, is our 30th wedding anniversary, so my husband and some dear friends will be at the show, too. Wouldn't it be fantastic for you and me to meet and compare dieting notes and goals? Maybe we'll be celebrating our success at reaching our goals! I would love that, Kathy. Although I know of a diet that was successful for me recently, I plan to try Nutrisystem this time. Worked so beautifully for Marie! Please respond...you've gotten me so motivated to start. I'd love to be your diet partner!

Kathy...I'm with you. One pound a week is do-able!!! Monday's are as good a day as any, too--that way we start the week off knowing how much harder we'll have to work off our weekends!! ;-) I know my annual Dr. Appointment is in March and I'd love for her to ask me what I did to lose the weight!

What a great idea Kathy. I unfortunately am in the obese category and am totally miserable. I had a rough year last year caring for my Mom with alzheimers, she passed away in October. I am hopeful 2010 will be a better year for me. It helps to have a support group to vent about frustrations and temptations of weight loss. I look forward to it. Tammy

Kathy,
I would like the support also to lose weight and I also hate going to meetings. Ever year a little more weight is creeping on and I would like to be healthier. I will be doing some traveling this summer and would like to have some outfits to pack.

Happy New Year to you both Kathy and Wayne.

I think this is a great idea. My doctor has suggested i lose some weight, but i have a very sweet tooth and low on will power. This is just what i need. Monday is a good day. Gives me time to go and buy the dreaded scales.

I'm all in. I just started back to my exercise routine of using Wii fit. I know what you mean about the feeling of having to report to someone. I would not like having to weigh in front of other people, but this way we can say how much we have lost without the embarrassment. Having support is the best way to reach a goal in weight loss, and I think this is a great way to give it.

Hi Kathy, Yes I need to lose weight and I made the resolution to start on Monday. I'm also like you that I don't want to go to meetings or groups to weigh in so will have to do this by myself. Only trouble is, I'm not really a good cook and I have no idea of what kind of foods to buy, so if you have any ideas on simple dishes to prepare I'd be grateful...lol. I like the fact that I can check in with you on Mondays...that will make me stick with it during the week...:) I have an incentive. I want to go to Vegas in June to see Donny and Marie and I really want to look good...ha.

Ok, first weigh in on Monday. In the meantime, where's those crisps.(chips)..haha!!

Hi Kathy,
Happy New Year! I love reading your blog, by the way. Anyway, I wanted to encourage you in your quest to lose weight in 2010. I sure can empathize with you on this journey, as I have struggled with my weight most of my life. The good news, though, is that I've managed to lose 27 pounds since June, (27 and counting, that is). I know how hard it is, so if I can offer you any support or encouragment along the way, I'd be happy to. I wish you and Wayne, and all your family a very Happy & Healthy 2010, and I look forward to continuing to read your blog. Take care, Kathy; and all the best.......You can do it, girlfriend! : ) Hugs, Wendy

Sure, I'll try to join you! I am actually within the "normal weight" (barely) of the BMI charts, but have gained 40 lbs. in the past 20 years, and can't get if off. I hope to meet you in Atlanta in March if you're still touring with the guys.

Shundra said...

I might try this. I'm not overweight, but I checked BMI chart to see if I'm overweight for my height(5'5'') and I'm very close to going to the overweight group. A lot of my clothes are feeling very tight at this moment. I used to be underweight for soo many years. Now I'm getting close too much weight gain.

I want to try to lose some weightbecause I don't want to hit 150. I'm almost there.

I look in the mirror and I don't look fat, but I feel it.

I guess I do need to lay off the snacks big time. I could eat them and never gain a pound. Now its catching up with me. I'm about to hit 30 in a month. Its time to change my eating.

I'm with you, Kathy! I lost 60 pounds a couple years ago but have put 30 back on. Monday we diet!

Kathy. What is that application called on your IPhone? I don't have a Iphone, but maybe I can get it some other way.

I'm with you, Kathy.
I'd love to lose about 30 lb. Also need to get back to the YMCA to exercise.
Since my retina surgery in Nov. I have been rather sedentary. Am allowed to walk for exercise now - just no lifting or bending.
Need to get on a healthy diet.
Thanks for your honesty and your support.

I also need to lose weight - about 40-50 lbs. that I put on while out of work since March. Just sitting around on the computer doesn't help. One thing that helped me years ago to lose 35 lbs. - I started out walking 1 mile a day for about 2 weeks; then increased to 2 miles a day, and before you knew it, I was walking 5 miles a day, lost all that weight and was healthier. Of course, I watched what I ate (no snacks, no McD's, Wendy's, Burger King - except once a week I was allowed 1 free day to eat whatever I wanted). I also gave up my pop (soda) and only had 1 can a day. Exercise is also the key to losing weight.

Go to the doctor, make sure everything is working properly anyhow....I've seen you several times this year - I don't think you're overweight at all....but we can do this together......next time we see each other maybe we'll both have lost 20 or 30 lbs. - HAH!! Good luck.

I'm with you! 1 pound a week is a realistic goal. The slower you take it off, the easier it is to keep it off. Eating normally and exercise and sleep are the best ways to loose weight. Now, all I need is to follow my own advice! Being able to share my experience with friends will be a great help! A merry 2010 to all!

Kathy,
I am with you too :)I was planning on starting on Monday (4th) anyways...but having a support system will make things much easier :)
THANKS :)

You can count me in Kathy. I have about 50 pounds to lose so it will take a while to get there.

Sounds like a great idea - I've had success with Weight Watchers because I had to be accountable , but the weigh-ins were deadly. A friendly, supportive blog would be a lot more fun and less threatening!

cj 6116 - How do you like your Wii Fit?

csue222 said...

II use my Wii Fit as a scale, and unfortunately it tells me my BMI (body mass index) as well my weight, and sadly, it's very accurate. I'm living for the day when I get out of the "obese" catagory and am just "overweight."

Kathy, hi! I'd like to join your support group. I'm so tired of being overweight, and I'm at my heaviest. If I have to report to someone I admire like I do you, that may be the extra incentive I need. A pound a week should be doable, I think. Like someone else mentioned, I'm not very tech-savy, but I can keep a food diary and cut back on portions, make better food choices and that's helped in the past when I was on Weight Watchers. Thanks for sharing your struggles with us. This might even be fun!

How to keep it off, that is the question on my mind, too. I lost 46 lbs pretty quickly and then the holidays came and I gained it all back. Gonna try again. But I don't have an iphone. Just gonna diet!

Kathy,
A week before Christmas ended up in the ER with blood pressure of 400. I was 34 and nearly at stroke level. I tried to go into to work and just could not do it went home once I was there.

I definitely need to lose weight and reduce stress. I am with anomymous and had several panic attacks in the last few weeks. The scary part is that is on meds. Thinking a check up is in order. As always I will end up with the weight speech. I will begin today and check in next week. good luck and happy new year!!! Rachel in Denver

Hi Kathy thanks for this blog, it is so helpful. I know it isnt always easy or possible but I find fitting exercise into your daily routine really helps to lose weight. Inpired by Merrills writings, I have set up a FB link called Reach for the Stars and Believe and intend to do both a 10k and half marathon run this year. Like your diet, it would be really good if people could join in and choose their own event. Im raising funds on behalf of the Childrens Miracle Network. I hope many people join you on your diet as support is essential. Likewise if you want to join me, let me know! Love your blogs!

I weighed in today and I lost 7.3 pounds. Wow! of course I wouldn't recommend getting sick with a GI Bug to make that happen (like I did) but it was a good start to my weight lost. Now I just need to keep going.
