Some of you have expressed an interest in reading the Old Testament all the way from the beginning to the end with Wayne and me. We're going to be using the King James Bible version to read from because it is accepted in many religions (not just the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) as the most correct translation of the bible. If you are interested in reading this version and you don't have a copy of the book you can go to http://www.lds.org where you can read the text. After entering the site you go to the GOSPEL LIBRARY on the menu and then click on SCRIPTURES from the side menu. The OLD TESTAMENT will be listed there where you can click and start your reading.
Since we all have such diverse backgrounds and ideas we would like to emphasize the comments of our posts to be limited to how we can relate what we read in the Old Testament to our everyday lives right now. We'd like to discourage doctrinal differences on the blog. If you have questions you would like to ask us about our doctrinal view, please message us on Wayne's website and we'll be happy to share our view with you. We don't want this experience to be contentious or argumentative at all. We want this to be an uplifting experience that we can all share together no matter what our religious affiliations may be.
Some of you started reading the Old Testament tonight so let's get going! Let's have the goal of reading a minimum of 3 pages a day, 21 pages a week, which is about the same as 2 short chapters a day. At this speed it will take us a little over a year to complete the work. Let's have Monday be report day for everything. Maybe we can help each other conquer any other New Year's resolutions that you need help in achieving.
So far I have the following interested in reading the Old Testament. Let me know if I missed anyone or you would like to join us. I'm looking forward to actually completing my New Year's resolutions for a change. Ha!

Kathy, please add me (Linda Sosa) to the scripture list. I'm so glad we're doing this, as it will be a helpful incentive to keep it up. (Especially for the more difficult books like Isaiah) I'll be bringing my Bible to work and reading during my breaks from driving. Thanks!
Hi Kathy (and Wayne on this post) I would like to join yall in reading the Old Testament. I know I have read the New Testament several times and the Book of Mormon. But I dont really remember the Old Testament.I know I have read parts..but not sure about the whole Old Test. Maybe when I was at BYU, but that was 78 and 80. SO time to do again. Do I remember right from talking to Donny once..that Isaiah is pretty hard to get through?
Okay..You are helping get my new year pretty structured and focused in good directions.>Thanks.. The eating healthier..reading the Old Testament..And my other goal..is to keep up with my physical therapy/fitness. I have some orthopedic injuries/surgeries that really make it important for me to do regular strengthening and flexibility exercises to maintain and improve my mobility and joint health/function..So thats my other thing I am looking forward to keeping on track with this blog and support here.(Will also tie in and help with wt loss)
Sincerely Thanks again for sharing so much of yourself here Kathy..and i really think it can make a difference for good..for all of us..Sure hope so..

I will be glad to share..if others want to .. Just a thought.. Thanks Folks..
I'm looking forward to doing this with everyone. I think you are correct in wanting to keep this an uplifting experience. Two chapters a day is attainable, I'm excited!! If Wayne has anything to say is he going to post any comments here on your blog? It would be interesting to read some of his thoughts as well. He will be the only guy but it will be fun. Have a great day!!!
Kathy, I'm interested! (Even if a bit late).
Do you find it hard to actually read through the stories you have heard since childhood...like David and Goliath, Adam and Eve, Jacob and Esau? I find I tend to skim over these
I may need some kicking on the way ... I have the KJV and I can doublecheck in my Finnish one if there is something I dont understand on this weird language (smiley). I do a LOT of explaining elswhere, so I try to remember to keep it in everyday life, besides I dont like to argue. I also have a bit language problem, using maybe too strong impressions sometimes. Feel free to delate and modify.... uh and my speeling (I am dyslexic and dysgrafic) especially if I am tired!
Last time I read the OT all the way through I was in seminary. We won't tell how long ago. :-) Count me in.

I'll join ya reading the OT! thanks for doing this and including us fans!
Kathy...ask Wayne if he remembers his 'Bible' name from The 'Travels Of Jamie McPheeters'?
Shhh dont anyone give it away I want to see if Wayne can recall...:)
Kathy,
I'll join in. I am reading both New and Old Testament in a year anyway. I read the KJV. So count me in.
I would love to join the reading group, finally life is settling down..granddaughter was born on Friday. I need the challenge to read the Old Testament....Love to all.

I'll gladly do the challenge. I did an intensive OT study years ago & have lots of insight that made it interesting instead of boring.
I have a One Year Bible & it is good cos it does some OT, NT, Psalms & Proverbs each day so it doesn't get mind numbing. Leviticus always used to do me in when I would just read it thru.
I need some kind of study to get me centered again. My mom has Alz & is getting worse so can get off course if I do anything really structured right now. Will gladly join in when I can.
I'm not LDS but know your scripture pretty well too so it is nice to share something without someone pointing fingers & just read His word with all of you!

Kathy: I'd love to join the reading group. I've read the NT a couple of times -- I get bogged down in Kings and Chronicles....but once I'm through those books I enjoy reading. Hope I'm not too late to join. Debbie
Please add my name to the list of readers. I think this will help me not quit part way through Annette
This comment is to Anonymous - I think it would be great to share a bit about ourselves - I'm game and I'll go first. I've been married to the man of my dreams for 28+ years, I married when I was 19. We have two boys, my oldest is 23 and my youngest just turned 20. Looking forward to hearing about some of you!!
I want to join the reading group! That's Jeff's and my New Years Resolution: to read it from cover to cover.
Kathy,
I have tried before in reading the Old
Testament before but when your told to do it for class and you are getting graded on what you remember it takes the fun out of it. I think this will be fun. Count me to.
Donna
I would be glad to take part. Also, I greatly appreciate the boundaries you have set up for the discussion. I think they are best and really everyone should be able to get much out of it. Can't wait for Proverbs.
Bet my husband and maybe even my son might indirectly take part too.
Where do we comment? Have we started yesterday? Enjoy some of my pictures with a Finnish componist Sibelius Or Norwegean pictures with a Norwegean componist Grieg; go to YouTube find LDSML and find Finland, second last in list and Fetsund, fift lst of my videoes. I made them to prise the beautiful world God has made for us. It is interesting how the creation is told twice in teh beginning of the Genesis. Also that in the Hebrew word used for creation actually mean reorganize, rearrange.
You can also read KJV on line: www.scriptures.lds.org/en/ot/contents

Wayne is correct! He was Leviticus! BUT he got Jay wrong...they were as follows:
Alan- Micah Kissell
Wayne - Leviticus Kissell
Merrill - Deuteromony Kissell
Jay- Lamentations Kissell
Jay got the most speaking parts..lol..he had a crush on one of the characters named Jenny.
And if you ever want to see the show, I have the whole series on DVD! The Bros were in the first 10 episodes (except the pilot..other actors played the Kissell kids in the very fisrt show)
