, WayneWayne and I love Delicious apples the best out of all the varieties that we have tried. Joe and Michelle like Gala apples because they think they are consistently good all the time instead of the red apples which sometimes are mushy or have a lot of pulp. Anneli loves Pink Lady apples which I really like too, but hadn't ever tried one until she introduced them to me about a year ago. I'm not sure what everyone else in the family's favorite variety of apple is - need to find out. With so many varieties of apples I shouldn't get bored eating an apple every day. I could try a different kind every day for how long?
Today has been a catch up day. I've been trying to get organized for the new year by cleaning out all the 2009 papers from my files. I also have started gathering everything to start on the taxes. Anyone like to do taxes? Finally finished going through all the mail since September when we were in Branson and now just have a few pamphlets and magazines to get through. I also have been catching up with the laundry, etc.
I started out with Wii Fit today and my fitness age has gone from 40 years old to 65 years old in one day. I knew that I shouldn't ever test my age again. Ha! The tests were new so I'm hoping that I did the tests wrong. I really enjoy reading every one's comments, ideas and suggestions and look forward to them. Got to go get a load of clothes out of the dryer before they get too wrinkled.
I'm back now and something smells really good. Wayne is lying on the couch watching Conan on TV eating a new snack. He put a beef hot dog in a little roll bun with a stick of string cheese. He says a minute and a half in the microwave is perfect for the cheese to melt. He then uses a fork to push the melting cheese back into the bun. He says it's just delicious! Try it and let him know how you like it. He topped off his snack with a Mountain Dew and Heath Bar. The best part is that he didn't even tempt me or put it under my nose this time.

Hi Kathy - I like to do taxes - ok - I'm crazy. And as far as apples - also biased. If they do not originate in NY, I won't eat them. Empires, Ida Reds, Cortlands, Macs, are all the best - had this conversation with my mission Mom - she was from Washington State - it was quite the showdown!! ;-)
Sounds like a tasty snack. Congrats on resisting the Heath bar. That would've been hard for me.
I like delicious apples best too. I have to tell you about a great object lesson I shared with my Primary kids on our activity night, using two apples. I found two beautiful apples that looked a lot alike, as far as size, shape, color, etc. I took one apple and carefully cut it from the top and cored it about 3/4 of the way through. Then I took some mud and filled the opening most of the way. I cut the bottom off of the cored top, and plugged up the whole, wiping the apple clean too. At the activity, I told them a story about two twins who were raised by faithful parents to live the gospel. But they chose different paths in life. One (the good apple) tried to keep the commandments and do what the prophet suggested about avoiding bad language, music and shows. She kept the Word of Wisdom too, always trying to be healthy. She prayed, read her scriptures, served others, etc. But her twin went the other way and started hanging out with a bad crowd, and was basically rebellious and making wrong choices. Anyway, the apples represented their souls, and tho' they as twins looked alike on the outside, on the inside (I cut the apples in half), one's soul was black with sin. The kids were soooo impressed! I had done this from the pulpit, so they couldn't see the top of the apple was cut. They were talking about it and telling the other kids a week later, and talking about keeping your spirit clean. Success! :o)Just thought I'd share. Have a great day!

Kathy, I can so relate to catching up on all that household stuff! There are things I've been putting off for months. Now that I'm giving a bridal shower for my niece, I MUST get them done...and NOW! I can't imagine going through 4 months of mail! And NO, I do not like doing taxes! Who does?
I went to Walmart today and thought it was appropriate that they had all their apples for $.97/pound, including my current favorites, the Braeburn. It is sweet and, like the Gala, consistently firm, not mushy. I think the Jonagold's are good too.
Congratulations to you for getting Wayne to stop tempting you! It's great that he's supporting you in you fitness/health efforts. I'd love to try Wayne's hot dog dish, but since I don't eat bread anymore, I'll stick with cutting up a hot dog in my turkey chili and adding cheese. It's great! I'll skip the dessert too.
I hope you have a wonderful day!

Dear Kathy
Does Wayne ever gain weight or is he one of those people that have a high metabolism? I'm proud of you for resisting joining in on that high high calorie snack. Also proud of Wayne for not tempting you.

Hey that's great you're getting Wayne trained! :-) My favorite apple is Granny Smith because they're so good for baking. Taxes - ugh! Have a gr-8 day!
Wow...Wayne's snack..Hope he doesnt have cholesterol issues.. Have to admit it sounds good though.
As far as apples..We like the Gala apples too. I checked this morning's new grocery store ads and my fave store has them 3 lb bags..buy one/get one free. So our apples will be stocked up on today. We also like Granny Smith apples.
An apple I have not tried yet..but hear a lot of people like is the Honeycrisp. Has anyone tried them? They are very pricey and only available for a limited time.
Good luck on the eating healthy and exercising folks..

I like pink lady for apple too. I don't know if I have a favorite. I like any apple that is hard (not mushy) and crisp. Have you ever tried Honey Crisp. It has a hint of honey. To me when I first heard about it I thought yuk! but it is good. Also a few years ago when I did Weight Watchers I learned that a good snack is apples and peanut butter. Peanut butter is a good protein so it will fill you up (only about a tablespoon or so It is really good.)
I love Fuji apples and red delicious the best. I would like to hear from your readers how they handle snack attacks!!! Which is my biggest problem. What do they do to avoid them, curb them, SAFISFY them. I am using the WW tips and a few of my own too, but there is always a new ones out there that might help too.
Hi Kathy , ask Wayne to do all the laundry for you as a treat, one day !!
My favourite apples are pink lady , but here in the UK they are a lot more expensive, but worth the extra cost i feel.
I do like cheese on wholemeal toast , sprinkled with slices of cherry tomatoes, melted under the grill, as opposed to the microwave , not keen on hot dogs!
Hope Wayne is having a good rest, and a deserved break , the guys work so hard performing , but i guess us fans like the magic of their shows to keep living on , and on and on ...
have a good week!
I just love Honey Crisp apples! The only bad thing about them is that they have a short season. Anna
Hi Kathy, do you like to drink Mountain Dew too?
I love Gala apples too. The crunchier the better. And that snack of Wayne's sounds just a little bit fattening! lol Yummy but not on the diet. Oh, and don't pay much attention to those tests Kathy, just go by how you feel.

I think I will try it, but modify it some. A Jenni O Turkey Hot dog with slim string cheese, and decaf tea (I don't do sodas or a carbonated drink) and a Peppermint Patti. Just might be my supper.
I like gala apples best (Just bougt a bag this morning) then golden delicious.
Apples - thankfully I love eating them. I went to the grocery store yesterday and bought a big bag of the Red Delicious (on sale too). They're my favorites. Mom likes the Jonathan apples for her apple pies - nice and tart - but for eating, a little too tart for me. I'm going to try and eat an apple a day - instead of potato chips, Cheetos, etc. I'm slowly getting there.
I actually cleaned out my 2009 bills and ready to file those in our plastic bin. I also did my mom's bills as I take care of her checkbook/bills - double the paperwork, but I am organized, which helps.
Glad Wayne is not tempting you with the sweet food. Paul doesn't either - he came into our computer room with a Klondike bar - I wasn't even tempted - too cold for ice cream anyhow - HAH!!!!
Love Golden Delicious apples!
I go to Curves about 3 times a week and lost 1 kilo (about 2 pounds?), 1/2 an inch around the waist and 1 inch around the thighs!
You're doing great too Kathy, just keep going! X Marja
My stepdaughter got me hooked on Fuji apples.
When I first got serious with my now husband and we would get our families together on a Saturday, Tim introduced my son and I to "burrito dogs"...hot dog and cheese on a flour tortilla. That was the extent of his cooking abilities as a bachelor dad. I then realized why his teen and college aged fended for themselves in the kitchen. LOL
This year I discovered a new apple: honey crisp. They are a perfect blend of crisp, sweet and tart.
Mcintosh or Granny Smith apples only. I like them tart.
We just got our T4 slips today at work. Up here, they're supposed to get out all the tax receipts by the end of February, so really, it's hard to start doing your taxes until March. I'll probably estimate my taxes this weekend, so I can see if I'm getting a refund or paying.
Wayne's snack sounds good. I would probably ditch the cheese though (not a big cheese lover) & have water instead of pop. :)
I like Granny Smiths. You sure have been busy today. I'm too tired when I get home from work to want to do anything
Granny Smith's are really great but I aslo like the Gala. Both of these we like to slice thick and dip in yogurt as a snack or really nice way to start the day.
Honey Crisp are the best ever! As mentioned above, the season is way too short.
I like Granny Smiths the best. Macintosh are good as well as the Pink Ladys - but grannys are my favorite. Love hearing about all the "normal" stuff you guys do. As for taxes, we haven't done ours since we bought our duplex. We get a big stack of papers back from the tax guy, he tells us how much we are getting back, where to sign and that is it. I don't envy those that still do their own.
