"A dissertation or thesis is a document submitted in support of candidature for a degree or professional qualification presenting the author's research and findings. The word thesis is used as part of a bachelor's or master's course, while dissertation is normally applied to a doctorate."
Amy graduated with a bachelor degree in English and a master degree in English. I remember reading her thesis that she wrote for her master's degree. She just graduated with a doctorate degree so she completed a dissertation.
Amy's dissertation explored organizational identification in one of the polygamous organizations in Utah. She took the theory of organizational identification and tested it by applying three rhetorical research methodologies to the data. Polygamous organizations are different but there are common rhetorical devices used that may be generalized. She was able to make conclusions about rhetoric surrounding one of the most interesting, complex and frustrating social issues in the state of Utah. It's very interesting reading.
My three girls have been training for a triathlon since January. They are all meeting in St. George to compete together on Saturday. I think Jeff might be also be participating with them. They'll be biking, running and swimming. Sounds exhausting to me.

WOW! Interesting I didn't know there is a difference between a thesis and a dissertation! Thank you for researching and enlighten our minds! My brother in law trains for triathlon. He's competing in the St. George triathlon, too!! How fun! He's in the best shape ever! I get too tired thinking I have to get on a bike for several hours, then switch to running and then swimming...which ever order it comes. I'm already exhausted just reading what you posted! Triathlon is a great way to get into shape and stay fit and trim! Have a great weekend!

Wow! I'm not sure I even understand your explanation of what Amy did. All I can tell is she must be really smart!!! From someone who never went to college, I can say that. Anyway, she must be glad it is all finished! The triathalon sounds like fun, it has kind of become a "bucket list" thing I would like to try.
That is great, Kathy.
Wow kathy that was a mouthful! I am sure reading Amy's dissertation was good reading. To choose to write on polygamous organizations is interesting based on the general rational that only the LDS organization was practicing polygamy. When I am sure that Amy found that wasn't the case.
Congrad's to the girls for even attempting such daughting task as a triathlon. I cuold maybe do one, but all three wow. impressive.
No one can ever say anyone in your family is an under-achiever, that's for sure!
Sounds like an interesting subject to work with. My stepdaughter is in Denmark right now and she's in grad school studying ocean archeology.
Long boats of the Vikings is the topic of the day.
She is helping to write a sort of guide book on them and has had to spend hours and hours studying sections of wood from the boats.
Love her facebook page telling us that when she's done with the project she has a pile of wood that will work great for the bonfire she wants to have to celebrate.
Amy's topic of study sounds like it was so much more interesting.
Wow, Kathy, that does sound like interesting reading. The triathlon sounds exhausting to me, too. But good for them! I think that's terrific! You know, the issue of polygamy in LDS history has always been a stumbling block for me. I know it's banned in the church now, but I've encountered some LDS members who - although they don't practice it - still discuss it as a "virtue," and state that it will be practiced in heaven. This confuses and kinda scares me. I know it's impossible to talk about all of Amy's dissertation, as I'm sure it is quite extensive. However, I was wondering if it might be possible to briefly touch on some of the conclusions she came to. I'd find this most helpful and interesting, as I've found that issue very difficult to understand. Thanks!
Wendy : )
Thank you, Kathy, for explaining. You are the bestest! :)
English? I thought Amy was a lawyer?
