Great Way to Celebrate the 4th of July!

Coming back to the USA today was a great way to
celebrate the 4th of July! We left the hotel in Cardiff, Wales at 3:30 a.m. to drive to the Heathrow airport in London.  This photo was taken from the window seat in the airplane right before we landed at JFK airport.

The security seemed extra tight at both of the airports and I wondered if it was related to the holiday. We went through several security checks - it seemed like more than the standard precedure. After getting off the plane at JFK, picking up our luggage, going through customs and immigrations, we left the building and walked outside with our luggage to terminal 2.

After arriving at terminal 2, the security personel diverted us from going through security at terminal 2 and we were led outside with all our carry-on luggage, playing follow the leader to terminal 3, before being allowed to go through a security check. I heard the security guard say that they needed to take more time to check the computer of the cute Indian family that I was behind. I was stopped completely from allowing my carry-on items to go through the scanner until the security had finished completely checking all the family's luggage that was waiting in the line before Wayne and I. That was a first!

After getting through security we sat around the airport for a couple of hours. We were all loaded on the airplane for SLC on time but then had to wait for at least a hot, half hour while we were waiting for the Delta flight attendants to board, before finally taking off. After taking off to Salt Lake City and about 45 minutes in the air, we were watching TV, and a special news report came on CNN.

There had been a bomb threat and a suspicious package found in terminal one at the JFK airport. They closed down terminal one and everyone had to evacuate the building. After many hours it was concluded that the package wasn't dangerous but we were really thankful to be already heading home and not still waiting around for the plane to take off.

It was a beautiful flight. As we approached the mountains in Utah they were so green because we haven't had much of a spring and just went from winter into summer with more water than usual this year. Wayne and I couldn't figure out where we were as we flew over the Utah mountains because everything looked so different - everything looked so green. Don't you love the Utah mountains?

Joe and Michelle picked us up at the airport and we're a little tired so I'll have to write more tomorrow when I'm more alert. I'm afraid I might offend someone. Ha! Hope everyone had a great and safe weekend!

Kathy and Wayne, glad you got home OK! I was just wondering if Jason got his luggage back after it was stolen at the first hotel? Did they find the man who took it?

I heard the news & wondered if you all would get stuck in the middle of all of that with all the flight problems you all have encountered this yr I wasn't surprised to hear it caught up with you!

Happy you are home safe & sound. Thank you for packing us up & taking us along on your tour, it felt like I was right there along side. Technology can be irritating but in this case it was great, thank you so much.

I've loved my trips to Vegas & UT to see the guys cos I can't wait to see those wonderful peaks & always cry coming home to MO when I leave them. Thanks for a glimpse of them again & they are green!

The police has at least one photo of the guy who took Jason's bag. The hotel has a security video actually showing him taking the bag. He also made several immediate purchases on a credit card before they reported the card stolen which was only a few minutes after Jason realized the bag was missing. Someone from the police department in London is working on the case but Jason has given up hope for getting it back and is now focusing on getting some insurance money for the loss. What a horrible way to start out the tour, especially with all his mission photos and journal which can never be replaced.

When we arrived at the Heathrow airport we dropped Jimmy, Jay and their families off at a different terminal. The band took different flights than Merrill, Wayne and I so hopefully they arrived home safely. Merrill, Wayne and I were on the same flights to JFK and SLC and are happy to be home safely.

I am soo glad the police got a picture of the guy who took Jason's stuff and it was good that Jay immediately canceled his credit cards before the person put more stuff on there. I pray Jason get all his stuff back. Since they have a good idea who took it, it won't be long until they had that creep. I'm glad it didn't damper Jason's trip. He looked happy in all the pictures I saw of him.

The band did arrived home safety. I was reading on Facebook that Bryan just got his luggage. Poor guy.

I'm glad you guys are home safety. I hope Jimmy, Jay and their family made it safety to their destination.

Kathy. Thank you so much for blogging everyday on the trip. I'm glad you had a little time to show us what was going on behind the scenes especially things we don't see before the guys go on stage.

Now you and Wayne get some much needed rest before the next concert at the end of this month and Branson in 2 months. I can't believe I'll be in Branson in 2 months. I can't wait and my best friend has decided to go with me. So this will be her first Osmond concert.

Glad you arrived home safely. I sure know what you mean about everything looking so green around the state! I was in Park City, Provo and Salt Lake during the holiday weekend and that's all I kept saying to everyone..."Do the mountains look especially green today???" They all thought I was crazy! Guess it's just how you look at things. Welcome home!
