Olive's Chocolate Cake


Cream Together             1 cup butter
                                       2 1/4 cup sugar

Melt over hot water and add     3 1/2 squares baking chocolate
                                                  1 1/2 cup buttermilk
                                                  5 egg yolks

alternately with                          3 cups sifted cake flour
                                                  1 tsp baking soda
                                                  1/2 tsp baking powder
                                                  1/2 tsp salt

Add                                           1 tsp vanilla

Beat until stiff and fold in          5 egg whites

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes

I love chocolate cake so this sounds wonderful. May try it when I get home from my Italian holiday, but does anyone know what the weight equivalent of the US 'cup' is please?

YEP....
1 US cup=16 Tablespoons=236.8 milliliters ML.............................. 1/4 cup= 4 Tablespoons=59.2 milliliters ML...

We could make Olive's Chocolate Cake for our Dads since Father's Day is Sunday. You are right - this cake is definitely not on my Abs Diet. Ha!

Thanks for the conversion - will try this cake now. My husband is diabetic and not allowed it, my daughter is away at university so that will just leave me to eat it all up - don't like wasting anything:)
