After completing the Book of Alma today, I asked Wayne what he remembered the most about the book.  He mentioned all the many contentions and wars in the reading. Why do you think there was so much written on the wars in the Book of Mormon?

People that are living in the world now and reading the Book of Mormon are living in a time of many wars and contentions too. We can learn from the history of the Nephites and Lamanites what the Lord would like us to do and how to handle all the conflicts. These scriptures can help us in our lives right now by showing us what we need to do to withstand and endure all the wars, conflicts and contentions that are happening.

The chaotic time of the Lamanites and Nephites in the Book of Mormon preceded the first coming of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The wars and conflicts that are in my lifetime precede the 2nd coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Book of Alma can teach me how to become more Christlike in a world with many evil practices accepted by the people of our day - to live in the world but not of the world. I need to live righteously and follow the counsel of righteous leaders. I can apply the principles that I have learned in Alma not only to temporal difficulties but also spiritual challenges.

Tomorrow, June 7th, Wayne and I begin reading the Book of Helaman and will finish on June 22nd. We hope everyone is still reading and if you aren't ready to start Helaman tomorrow, please catch up so we can all begin reading 3rd Nephi on June 23rd. 

Third Nephi is my favorite part of the Book of Mormon because we learn of Christ's birth, death and resurrection. Third Nephi is also where the record of the Savior's visit to the American continent and his teachings are written and recorded.
