What if your friend lies to you?

Having acquired some frequent flier miles and not wanting them to be taken away because of inactivity, I ordered a magazine to keep the account active so I wouldn't lose my remaining miles. The magazine "Health" seemed like a safe choice and an issue arrived today in the mail. Curious about the new magazine, I opened it and started reading what I thought would be some very good tips.

In an article entitled, "3 Stress Fixes to Try," it tells a problem and then suggests the way to fix the stress that would be experienced by the problem. The first problem was how to relieve my stress when my friend lies to me. The "FIX" that was recommended was to GOSSIP, because it can be very therapeutic. This answer REALLY shocked me!

The author claims that a new study suggests that when a person discovers that their peer has behaved badly, their heart rate goes up and when they tell others about it that their heart rate slows down. "Gossip alleviates the negative emotions we feel when someone behaves in an antisocial way," says co-author Robb Willer, PhD, assistant professor of sociology at UC-Berkeley.

Are we living in a society where it is now more important for us to think only about ourselves and how we can alleviate our own discomfort and negative emotions without even considering how our gossip may affect our friend and destroy her reputation? Will this "FIX" of telling all our peers about our friend's moral deficiencies really make us feel better?

I know that gossiping and telling everyone that my friend lies to me is not going to help my discomfort and I know that there are definitely better solutions to helping my friend realize the serious consequences of lying than destroying her reputation.

What is your perspective on lying? Is it O.K. to lie if you don't get caught? If you catch a friend lying to you, do you have a responsibility to help them? I'm eager to hear how you would FIX the stress that you feel when a friend lies to you and how you would handle the situation. Please post your thoughts, ideas, comments, and possible solutions to this problem. I hope to hear from everyone!

Memory Book

Today we picked up a package at a cousin's house and what a delightful surprise! Laura M. put together a wonderful, colorful, bright book of memories for Wayne and me.

Wayne read and studied every page! I don't think that he has ever finished a whole book before in one sitting.

An example from the book which holds so many fond memories.  Wayne shared his memories with me of what he remembered on each page and photo.

Wayne loved seeing all his old guitars and costumes in the photos - except the goofy plaid suits that he, Jay and Donny had to wear. "Why didn't Alan and Merrill have to wear goofy plaid suits too?" Wayne remembers being jealous when Jay got to wear the bullet belt in another group photo. "Good Old Bill, the duck," brought back some very fond memories. Wayne liked having a photo of himself playing the bagpipes. "Look at all of us on that little scooter!" "Vicki and Darren have two pages in the book!" These are just some of the comments that Wayne made when going through the book page by page while giving me the historical background and details of each photo.

We both enjoyed seeing all the family photos through the years, the comments and photos from friends, and the different stages of Wayne's show business career!

We are going to put this beautiful book full of happy and wonderful memories on our living room table so everyone that visits can enjoy the book too.

A very special thank you to Laura for being so thoughtful to organize, design, edit and put the book together. Also a big thank you to many others that contributed such as: Trina M., Linda S., Lourdes M., Dot T., Vicki & Darren P., and Geri & Paul R.

My First Root Canal

Dr. Steve gave me my first root canal today and then he did another root canal on Wayne. We took up his whole afternoon. It was even a little fun having a root canal because he did it for me!

"Wonky's Book Worms"

                                                                                                         Enos Praying

How is everyone doing on their Book of Mormon reading? Wayne and I have really enjoyed reading the Book of Mormon together. My favorite part of the reading this month were the testimonies of the prophets Lehi, Nephi, Jacob, Enos and Isaiah.

"And now I, Nephi, write more of the words of Isaiah, for my soul delighteth in his words. For I will liken his words unto my people and I will send them forth unto all my children, for he verily saw my Redeemer, even as I have seen him.

And my brother, Jacob, also has seen him as I have seen him; wherefore, I will send their words forth unto my children to prove unto them that my words are true. . . " (2 Nephi 11:3)

Most of us will not have the experience of seeing our Lord and Savior in mortality so we live by faith, keeping the commandments of the Lord and enduring to the end. I am trying to apply the doctrine of Christ in my life so I may see my Redeemer and be worthy to have the experience that Enos describes.

"And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me; Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father."
(Enos 1:27)

Today, March 4th, is the first Sunday in the month and on the schedule we should be reading Jarom. I hope you are all hanging in there with us by reading a chapter of the Book of Mormon every day. April 1st will be the first Sunday in April and we should be reading Mosiah Chapter 26 on that date.

Please post your comments, experiences and how you can apply your reading in March to your life. I love to read your posts.
